The Gross National Debt:

You Cheap Bastard!

You Cheap Bastard!

Postby Amster » 08/27/08, 5:12 am

I dated a guy for several years who was fairly liberal but who, fascinated and curious no doubt about my Rush fanaticism, started listening here and there to Rush.  Turns out one day we were both riding along in our cars listening to the program when the "cheap bastard" rant took place.  He called me later in the day and began to tell me about "something funny" he'd heard on the radio earlier in the day.  Before he could get it out, I came back with "you CHEAP BASTARD!!"  I can't think of too many times I've laughed harder.  He's been "cheap bastard" ever since.

I'm a brand new 24/7 member (I work nights and rarely get to listen during the day) and I'm wondering if there might be some way to search his web site archives to find this particular audio.   Anyone??

Yes, I have searched the archives many times, to find Rush in his best moments. I always listen to the parodies when I can find them.

I searched his site and didn't find any cheap bastard.  Could you provide a little more info?  Obviously I didn't hear this one.

Glad to provide a little more info on this one.   Basically, a caller was complaining about the unfortunate plight (in terms of wages) of people who are employed by individuals as gardeners, maids and what have you (I don't recall the specific example given).  He lamented about how hard these people work and insinuated that most people who hire these workers are selfish and cheap, paying a pittance in wages.  Rush informed the caller that he personally paid his help well above minimum wage and suggested that most people in his position who can afford these types of employees do the same.  I can't recall who first threw out the "cheap bastard" reference but Rush then brilliantly pointed out to the caller that HE was the cheap bastard (surmising, no doubt, that the caller was suffering from a guilty conscience)!   It was a priceless exchange.  I also searched the web site and came up empty-handed.  I would guess this call took place sometime over the past year or year-and-a-half.
