Petunia, don't feel bad about Calpyso's response. I've been posting to this web site for a couple of weeks. Calypso constantly maligns anyone who doesn't agree with him. He *very* occasionally has interesting things to say - but he drowns them in personal attacks. He's as guilty as anyone fringe lefty in this regard.
gross-mischaracterization mr. rat.
one thing that you consistently do mr. rat, which is "obvious" as you say, is to premise a conclusion with questions a.k.a. socratic persuasion. perhaps you are aware, the principles of the socratic are popularized in its latin root ethos pathos logos or, translated into an english colloquial here, upon one's own values can be constructed trusting relationships from which you may impart logic. until you have constructed such a foundation, you are incapable of logical persuasion.
a significant difference between your line of questions and the socratic process that you perhaps observed in liberal arts or law class is that your professors had a presumption of ethos from which to construct relationships with you, the student. that's something a website cannot offer. consequently we on a public forum must focus on our logic or simply that conclusion of yours. from these conclusions we are able to construct relationships from which to better understand our respective values. a 180 on socrates.
whether you can learn from this is a gauge of your ability to think critically. intelligently. takes courage.
another important difference with your postings is that your professors carefully prepared for class, and for the most part with the end-game of getting you to think. unfortunately some students only learn to regurgitate, desperately clinging to academic notions around which they define their fragile existence. maybe that's you and maybe its not, can't really tell yet, but you are most certainly not prepared for class. and what seems to happen is you ask increasingly desperate questions as the logic of your process loses sight of its conclusion. eventually it all breaks down and here we find you scolding a student who is perfectly innocent of your charges.
that's just not right mr. rat.
concentrate on preparing for the class. then you can teach. or learn, its really up to you why you're interacting here.
