Why McCain

Why McCain

NEWS ALERT
from The Wall Street Journal
Sept. 11, 2008

The next U.S. president will be confronted on inauguration day in January with slow growth, high unemployment and an economy teetering toward recession, according to a survey of 51 private economists surveyed by the Wall Street Journal.

If the forecasts turn out to be correct, pumping up the economy will the first challenge facing either Democrat Barack Obama or Republican John McCain as president. That's likely to place tax cuts and elevated government spending high on Washington's agenda, and push to the backburner measures that could add to business costs, such as reforming the health-care system and fighting global warming.

The Wall Street Journal's latest monthly survey paints gloomy picture of the economic outlook through the first half of 2009. While economists say the tax rebates distributed in the second quarter provided some help to consumers, the economy is on course to post four straight quarters of annualized economic growth below 2%, the longest stretch of such subpar growth since the recession of 2001.

Know what would turn this all around in a heartbeat?  This Congress passing and the President signing a Drill Here and Drill Now Bill.  The price of gas would go down to a reasonable price just with the signing of this bill and the economy would be stimulated.

Not likely, though.  That's not what the Dems want.  They want:

[SIZE=11pt]Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future.

"why mccain" is not a question. this article is illustrative of why we need mccain more so than obama, although i would argue with your perception of economists.

John McCain was not my first choice and I still think he will do quite a few regrettable things if he gets elected. He keeps repeating the meme of working with demoRats which can only mean caving in to them. It would take real leadeship to explain to people the dire straits this country is in over entiltlements and it would blow Obamabi away when he talks about adding new spending.

well.  nothing to do for it now.  Republican elites allowed the media to choose their candidate.  And we're stuck with him.    I wonder though if something didn't get thru to Team McCain with the 1.  warning to Republicans that he had better NOT choose lieberman and 2. what happened when he chose Gov. Palin.

Importantly, McCain has learned a good lesson from the media.  He has been played and pampered all these years as he has crossed the aisle.  He thought the media liked him and he'd get a fair hearing.   That must have been a bit of a shock to find out that he was not their darling but their dupe.

I know that in Fairfax Virginia, both he and Gov Palin are very aware of their treatment in the media.   It may be that he is learning a lesson that going to the right can only be a help to him.

personally, i'm getting sick and tired of my republican representatives playing footsies with democrats.   Having dinner with them, calling them their friends.   I don't want my republican rep being so stupid that they think they can be friendly with a democrat politician.    Democrats know the seriousness of the situation and they'll stab their republican 'FRIEND' in the back for the good of the democrat party.   Republican politicians are fools if they actually believe that they have democrat politician friends.

That's actually a pretty good picture.  One of the best you've posted.    You're slipping.
