The very first line of your post acknowledges that Palestine existed (at least in the eyes of the Romans - who, if memory serves, ruled the world at some point).

However you define a "nation", the "region" had/has a common culture, language, etc.  They even had casual Fridays.  So I'm not sure I get your point.

There was no such thing as the United States of America either until we killed a bunch of Indians and made it.  Who cares?   The Jews have been the scapegoat of everybody since just about forever.  They revolted and grabbed some land.  Go for it.  Just treat the people you stole it from a little better.  God I hate religion.  Makes people do such stupid things.
