The wonderful things liberals have done for our country

Liberals have done a lot of good things for our country over the years. For example, when I was a kid it took a long time to pump $10 of gasoline into our car. You could press that pump handle as hard as you wanted it just took forever to get $10 of gasoline into our car. These days, you can pump $10 of gas in no time at all. Think of all the labor savings that have resulted from this one liberal achievement alone. Why, I can be in and out of the gas station in a few minutes now and still get $10 of gasoline.

And when I was a boy, the government didn't publish many things. If you wanted something to read you had to go buy a book or magazine. Now, the government published tens of thousands of pages every day. Why you could start reading government publications tomorrow and read a thousand pages a day and you would literally never run out of things to read. I am an avid reader and it makes me feel better knowing that liberals are out there cranking out that much quality reading material every day.

Well, of course, there was the problem of over population when I was a boy. Well, in some places the liberals have really taken care of that. Why in Cambodia, Darfur, and Rwanda there are very few problems with overcrowding today. Those people living there can walk down the dirt path from their eco-friendly, mud-brick, dirt-floor home and not see anybody for days. This again is largely thanks to liberals and the effective policies they have implemented here and abroad. They haven't solved the problem everywhere yet but they are hard at work on it in places like Tibet just to name one.

And back when I was a kid everybody said we would have a new global ice age. For years everybody talked about it. Why temperatures would drop and everybody would die and glaciers would creep back down from the north and the world would just freeze. Well, it turns out the liberals managed to do such a good job preventing the new ice age that now they say the earth might be getting too warm! How about that for success! In just 30 or 40 years liberal policies have prevented an ice age and darn near warmed up the place a bit. It is amazing what those folks can do when they put their minds to solving a problem.

Well, these are just a few examples of how liberals have made the world a better place. I bet if I think really hard I can think of some more practical ways liberals have made life better for everyone. Why don't you see if you can think of some too? This is fun!

When I was a boy, my friends and I were repressed. We actually had to go to school, follow the rules, learn our lessons, respect our elders, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and engage in such brutal playground activities as dodgeball and tag. At least some of you who read this will recall those dark days.
Then:
1) If I did not say present at roll call, the school would actually call my home to find out why I was not in school.
2) Violations of school policy resulted in a trip to the principal's office for punishment. <gasp>
3) Student aptitude was measured by exams. Not achieving a minimum score resulted in a failing grade. Excess failing grades resulted in not being promoted to the next grade. <incredulous gasp!!!>
4) Teachers, administrators and custodial staff were surrogate parents. Disrespect of them resulted in another trip to the principal's office, and a call to your parents, both resulting in more punishment.
5) Each and every school day, without exception, began with a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
6) Boys and girls were REQUIRED to exert themselves on the playground. We had to actually hurl air-filled rubber balls at one another in a barbaric display of bloodlust. Or, worse yet, dash about on our little legs trying to evade the dreaded one who was IT, lest we be tagged and become IT.

Now:
1) If a child does not go to school, the school has no legitimate right to call and make inquiries. To do so would be a blatant violation of that child's right to privacy.
2) Violations of school policy result in a comprehensive review of that policy, by administrators, school board, attorneys and civil courts, to ensure that the policy is not unfair, restrictive, emotionally/psychologically damaging or a violation of the child's civil rights. If the policy stands up to close scrutiny, a punishment may be assigned. Said punishment must then withstand a comprehensive review by the aforementioned parties, for the aforementioned reasons. If the method of punishment stands up to close scrutiny, the application of said punishment is subject to comprehensive review, by the aforementioned parties for the aforementioned reasons. By this time, punishment is inappropriate because no one remembers what the child did wrong anyway. At this point, a good liberal points out that moral judgments, right and wrong, inhibit the child, and are inappropriate. Of course, at no time may a parent take unilateral action to punish their own child.
4) Learned experts in the field of indoctrina ..., er education, have determined that exams and grades are emotionally and psychologically stressful for children. So, rather than getting all wrapped up in measuring performance, modern education gives every student a gold star for trying to answer a question. Afterall, are there really any right or wrong answers?
5) The Pledge of Allegiance has become tiresome and a violation of the separation of church and state. So, recitation is optional, unless your state has abolished it.
6) Playground activities are for the enjoyment of all. Provided the children do not engage in any activity that may result in a bruised knee, dirty hands, invasion of personal space, loss of self esteem, emotional/psychological trauma, traditional gender role playing, reinforcement of traditional family values, or any other activity that may expose the school to civil liability, and/or the ire of a liberal parent.

Thanks to liberal concerned parents, educators, administrators, politicians, lobbyists, judges, the ACLU, and the U.S. Dept. of Education today's children are spared the puritanical hell that was my childhood. Just look at the results of their dedication and selfless acts on behalf of our children.
Schools have become armed fortresses to protect students from their peers.
Graduation rates are at historical lows.
Drop out rates are at historical highs.
The expense of education has increased, while quality has declined.

Well, their intentions were good. We, at least, have to grant them that, right?

When I was a girl, we had to not only say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning but we had to read a passage from the bible in front of the class at least once a month.  Also, we were forced to learn patriotic songs like..God Bless America, America the Beautiful, and we'd better know the Star Spangled Banner or we were in deep do do.  We even had to sing religious songs and hymns.  We also had to memorize things like the Gettysburg Address and recite them in front of the class.  Today, kids don't say the Pledge, the bible is not allowed in school, and the kids don't learn songs that make them patriotic citizens.

When I was a kid, children were put in their place.  They ate every scrap of food on their plate whether they liked it or not or they would sit there all night if necessary until that food was gone.  All the kids also went to bed by 7 on a school night until around the age of 10-12.  Today, mommy cooks a variety of things so the little darlings don't have to eat foods they don't like and I've been in situations late at night with parents and their very small children in tow.  There's no regimentation, no guidelines, no boundaries.

When I was a kid, no one ever locked a door in their house or their car.  Crime rates now are horrendous.  That's what happens when God leaves your schools and when morality leaves your society.

When I was a kid, I never wore a helmet or any other protective gear when riding a bike.  I don't know how I lived so long without my helmet and protective elbow and knee pads.

When I was a kid, the teacher paddled you in front of the class for committing a minor infraction.  If it was a larger infraction, you were ushered to the Principal where he would paddle you.  In both cases, your mother was called and when you got home, you got spanked again, oftentimes worse.  Kids are running the schools now and children can report their parents for abuse because they got a spanking.

When I was a kid, I walked 5 miles to/from school every day and even walked home one time when it was 18 degrees below zero.  There were no buses.  Mommy walks them to the bus stop now and they ride as little as one block to school.  Gotta watch out for those pedophiles.

There also were no stores to buy books.  If you wanted to read a book, you went to the library.  You had to get on an electric bus and go all the way downtown to go to the library.    Libraries are having a difficult time surviving now days for alot of reasons but they are a great place to learn, research and enjoy reading.

When I was a kid you worked hard and you played hard.  You had your chores and you didn't expect to get paid for doing them.  You played hard and when you had a fight with someone, you really had a fight with someone and then ended up being best friends.  Chores?  Not without allowances.  Fights?  No No No..not allowed.

When I was a kid, you went out on Halloween night without a parent and you stayed out until you couldn't take it any more.  You came back with a pillowcase full of candy that you could barely lift and your mother wouldn't go through it looking for rasor blades.  Halloween is now schduled for 2 hours in the daylight and parents are always with their kids.

These are just a few of the wonderful things I experienced growing up in Dayton, Ohio in the 50's and early 60's.  There were boundaries and you knew them.  There were rules and you followed them. There was responsibility and you owned it.

Thank God for the liberals because children don't get to experience these awful things any more.   They don't get to grow up with character and the knowledge of right and wrong.  They don't get to learn how to think for themselves and they don't get to be all they can be physically. But, what's worse is that they don't understand the greatness of this country and why Grammie is a flag-waving, song singing, screaming conservative patriot.
We've got to do a better job of getting across that America is freedom--freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of enterprise. And freedom is special and rare. It's fragile; it needs protection.

I like to use this analogy to demonstrate the conservative v. liberal struggle. Good medicine doesn't taste good, but it does work.

I think CS Lewis wrote in "The Abolition of Man" that when people state that they are progressive or that their policies are progressive we must always ask "progressive toward what end?"

We have failed to ask that question and now find ourselves having "progressed" quite steadily toward the abolition of western culture and the unique freedoms we Americans enjoy.

This may or may not be a good thing; but when I was in elementary school and two kids had a problem with one another, one of them would challenge the other to a fight "under The Dome".  "The Dome" was a geodesic dome of monkey-bars about 15 ft high -- horrifically unsafe playground equipment of that barbaric era.  The two combatants would meet in the circle under the hemisphere of the dome while child-spectators clambered all across the outside of "The Dome" to watch the fight.

I swear on my Grandfather's grave that this is true.  To the point that I have often wondered whether the screen-writer of "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome" had gone to my elementary school.  With the exceptions that there were no chainsaws or other weapons, that the combatants were not tethered to elastic harnesses, and that the combatants were children -- the scene was identical.

Anyway, the point is that, for several years until his retirement, the school principal would always hear the commotion and come out of his office and actually watch the fight from a distance and never interfered.

I also remember (or more accurately, do not remember) my first concussion while playing the daily installment of "kill-the-guy-with-the ball" (which we called "Rumble") upon hitting my head on the frozen February ground.  Ah, those were the days (or were they, I don't recall).

I think the point is that those brutal endeavors of childhood, whether it be tag, dodgeball, early-morning "rumble", or fights "under The Dome", made me and my classmates stronger, tougher individuals -- able to get knocked down and (unless there was a concussion and unconsciousness) get back up again.

Watching those same kids throughout school, through highschool, and off into college and beyond; I never once witnessed any long-term detriment to anyone who engaged in these "barbaric" and "unsafe" activities, and I believe that every child involved only benefitted (unless knocked out cold).

Having reminisced, and been reminded here of the changes wrought by liberals upon all of childhood, I feel that I must state an absolute (albeit chauvinistic, stereotypically super-masculine, and possibly "homophobic") truism:

Liberals are F*&%ING PANSIES.  And they're turning our children into F*&%ING PANSIES.

Crude, perhaps; but I hope it summarizes some of the sentiments posted above.

When I was young LBJ was able to pass his agenda for a "Great Society", encouraging and enabling African-Americans the right to be successful in our country - and they have taken that challenge, pulled themselves up by their bootstaps and.... and......
Wait, that was a dream.
Well, the first part was true.
