America has become so much better since liberals now judge people by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.

The bugaboo over the pregnancy epidemic in Gloucester, MA has got me thinking about this topic again. Liberals have spent the last few decades beating America over the head with PC. One of the offshoots of PC has been a general repression of social stigmas. Stigma makes people feel bad about themselves and that cannot be allowed.

During my 4 years of high school, there were a total of 3 pregnant girls in our school. (To give my anecdote context, I grew up in a rural bedroom community of S. IL. And, attended high school from 1982-86. Enrollment averaged 800 students.) Many things, including teen pregnancy, carried a stigma in our community.

Now, thanks to Liberals, teen pregnancy no longer carries that awful stigma. Teenage girls are free to bear a child before they are old enough to drive that child to the doctor.

Many years ago I heard a quote that was attributed to Dr. Billy Graham.  I cannot confirm that he ever said it but the way it went was, "the only sin left in America is to call Sin Sin."  

The concept of sin is dying out.  Nobody recognizes a moral absolute.  Few people recognize any morality greater than "what I decide is good for me, right now."  

When I was a high school student in the 70s teen pregnancy was virtually unheard of and I remember only 1 girl getting pregnant.  In 2006, 37% of all children were born out of wedlock.  http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id ... _article=1.  The percentage has increased in the last two years.  

Clearly there is no stigma against out of wedlock birth, drug use, homosexuality, murder, corruption, theft, etc.  The left has defined deviancy downward to the point they believe nothing except Christianity should be stigmatized.

Now see, you have it all wrong.
It’s good for these young girls to have babies.
They get to go on the rolls of government-sponsored programs. Free healthcare, free housing if they want it, college grants or free worker training programs, free daycare when then want it, food stamps to name a few. They don’t have to worry about going to work. According to my son when he was in high school that is exactly why they got pregnant in the first place. They used to brag how they now didn’t have to worry about getting a job and they all thought it was really cool and everything. Oh I forgot they get a check every month for support from the Daddy. Free money too!
They also become the next vote for the DNC.

Yes, that will one day be a "Best of" thread when this forum goes into syndication!  Some of your better work was done there, Eyas.  

17 girls?  4 times more than last year!  A pact?  If they did it to "escape" wouldn't it have just been easier to run off together and take a bus to Vegas?  I am a parent and I love my kids but I cannot see how a woman raises a baby alone.  That is hard work.  I wonder if these confused young girls have any idea of how hard it is to be a single parent?  I wonder how many of them realize they have condemned themselves and their children to a life of poverty?  I wonder if they realize they have now guaranteed they will spend their lives in the poverty they sought to escape?

This will sound very cynical, but here goes. I don't believe these girls thought at all. Teenage girls, in my experience, are driven by pop culture. Pop culture is driven by the fad. And, having a baby is the latest fad. The movie Juno. The media coverage of Jamie Lynn Spears. Angelina's serial motherhood. I really think these girls looked at getting pregnant like buying a pair of shoes. I don't buy the psychobabble that has been on TV. These girls got pregnant, by design, because they think it is cool.

When I was younger we had movies that accurately depicted the never-ending struggle that young parents face. The subject was not glorified or rationalized.

Yes, but I suspect in this case the movie was in Spanish and the girls probably thought it was a Univision Soap Opera.  So, it might not have had the same impact.

Scenario:  Jeffrey won't be still in class, disrupts other students.
1957 -[/B] Jeffrey sent to office and given a good paddling by the Principal. Returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.[B]
2007 -[/B] Jeffrey given huge doses of Ritalin. Becomes a zombie. Tested for ADD. School gets extra money from state because Jeffrey has a disability.[B]

Scenario:  Billy breaks a window in his neighbor’s car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.
1957 -[/B] Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college, and becomes a successful businessman.[B]
2007 -[/B] Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy removed to foster care and joins a gang. State psychologist tells Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has affair with psychologist.[B]

Scenario:  Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.
1957 -[/B] Mark shares aspirin with Principal out on the smoking dock.[B]
2007 -[/B] Police called, Mark expelled from school for drug violations. Car searched for drugs and weapons.[B]

Scenario:  Pedro fails high school English.
1957 -[/B] Pedro goes to summer school, passes English, goes to college.[B]
2007 -[/B] Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English banned from core curriculum. Pedro given diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.[B]

Scenario:  Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from 4th of July, puts them in a model airplane pain t bottle, blows up a red ant bed.
1957 -[/B] Ants die.[B]
2007 -[/B] BATF, Homeland Security, FBI called. Johnny charged with domestic terrorism, FBI investigates parents, siblings removed from home, computers confiscated, Johnny's Dad goes on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.[B]

Scenario:  Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary.  Mary hugs him to comfort him.
1957 -[/B] In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.[B]
2007 -[/B] Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy[SIZE=13].
