That Was Then . . .

That Was Then . . .

Postby bedbug on 06/23/08, 1:15 am

I have been watching When We Left Earth on Discovery. I was struck as I watched the video of Armstrong and Aldrin planting the Stars and Stripes on the moon. I thought, my god I can hear the Lefties howling, with indignation.

When we return to the moon, hopefully in the near future, will there be a flag raising?

On Mars?

Sadly, I doubt NASA, today, possesses the desire to declare American exceptionalism.

I wasn't sure where to put this; but I think it kinda fits with the theme of your post, so I'll put it here.  Sorry if it seems off-topic.

I have never read any C.S. Lewis -- except for "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" when I was a kid.

I'm sure many of you are familiar with his works and have heard this quote before, but, this morning was the first time I had seen it & I think it describes the Left in this country quite well and perfectly explains much of what is wrong with America these days:

We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.

--C.S. Lewis

Frankly, I doubt NASA has the technical prowess to raise a flag on the moon or Mars in the near future.  Their failure rate on Mars missions is pretty high.  Thank goodness the two that plowed into the planet were unmanned!

Well, reading more Lewis is a good thing.  You might want to consider his space trilogy books.  And then try "The Abolition of Man."  Your quote may be from that book.

Back to the original question.  If Obama is president and we return to the moon (which I doubt we will do with Obama in the White House) not only will there not be a flag rasing but the astronauts will be ordered to remove the flags left by the Apollo astronauts so as to not offend the rest of thw world.

Well, I suspect there would be flag raisings.  The first would be the flag of the former Soviet Union, followed by the Rainbow Coalition flag.

The next step would be to remove the American flags from the surface of the moon.  Then they would sit around in a big circle holding hands singing Kumbaya.  They have yet to figure out how the shaman is going to light a fire and burn offerings to the four winds and atone for the sins of the white man.

Flag raisings would be more correct.. Che Guevara's, the Communist Party flag, Al-Qaida must have a flag in a cave somewhere

I'll bet we could come up with quite a few flags Obama would put his hand over his chest for that aren't the American flag.
We've got to do a better job of getting across that America is freedom--freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of enterprise. And freedom is special and rare. It's fragile; it needs protection.

Obama could post his Seal so other life forms could contact him to make future campaign donations.

You mean the campaign finance laws would be amended to allow contributions from THOSE illegal aliens too?
