Select the Second Most Influential Conservative of All Times!

THE MOST INFLUENTIAL CONSERVATIVE OF ALL TIMES WAS OF COURSE WILLIAM F BUCKLEY, JR.

You get to choose the second most influential conservative of all times.

Choose up to three.
He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.

Milton Friedman, the most influential economist of his time.

I give it a tie between Rush and Ronnie.

Plutarch warned, "The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits."

I picked Milton Friedman.

I have to admit that I don't know who Fred Hayek is.  Please enlighten me.  (I could google him, but I'd rather hear what you say about him)

Herr Doktor Hayek was a Nobel Prize winning economist (when that meant something) and inspired Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan with his works and theories.  He is also the author of "The Road to Serfdom" which is oft quoted by true conservatives.  He was also a contemporary of Milton Friedmand at U. Chicago though he was much older.

Wikipedia has a pretty good article on him.

Cool. Thanks.

I can't believe I've never heard of him.

Shocking!  And you call yourself a man of letters!

You may want to add this site to your regular web surfing itinerary.  I first learned of these good folks while I lived in Russia of all places.  (And I have a minor in Econ that was taught by a largely conservative econ faculty!)  They provided me with vast amounts of valuable information.

I am duly chastised and embarrassed.  Unfortunately, I can't go back in time to un-learn the stupid stuff I know and trade it for learning of important things.  I just keep on trying to learn the important things.
