R.I. OKs voting rights for 2 mental patients
Providence, R.I. -- A State board has ruled two men
found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity should
be allowed to vote.
John Sarro and William Sarmento have been confined to
the state mental hospital since being found legally insane
in the 1980's for separate murders. Cranston's board of
canvassers ruled last year they were too mentally ill to
cast ballots. But the State Board of Elections ruled Wed-
nesday there was no connection between the men's
competence to vote and insanity findings!
