ussr did this too, with its politically motivated distribution of its industrial complex. served military and political purposes mostly, but not based on any particular economic environment. an artificial economic environment if you will.

one of the challenges facing the russian economy following parstroyka is finding utility in the scattering of an industrial complex that serves historic political interests, not current needs in a competitive environment. on a geographic level much of this complex is simply not competitive. antiquated and a burden on its society and ability to create wealth.

the ripple effect of our housing bust in this country is quite similar in effect. we now have vast inventories of homes scattered around the country based on artificially stimulated demand, the consequence of government policy. government and more particularly our government cannot help but screw up its own economy. the best they can do is slow it down, and in this instance they almost succeeded in bringing us to a complete stop.

we now have vast complexes of new communities to burden our society for many years to come. we're possibly best served issuing multiple government contracts demolishing many of these homes and communities, putting money back in the working man's hands, versus carrying these now stranded sunk costs.

one big, painful write-off to yet another lesson in why our government is way, way too big.

Demolish the excess houses? Are you serious, just let them drop down to the value of the local economy and a lot of first time buyers will be able to afford a house. You have been watching too much of that idiot Cramer. That guy is a moron, he is shilling companies he has stock in.

perhaps you remember the government's programs to help native american indians. full kitchen appliances handed to each and every family. shortly after the program was fully implemented you could drive through the various reservations and see all these fine pieces of equipment strewn out along their lawns, rusting away into nothingness.

what we now have are vast inventories of empty homes scattered around the country serving formerly unprecedented demand that was artificially stimulated by market conditions enabled by federal policy. few natural market conditions shaped the proliferation of our housing supply over the past 15-years. in other words, most of the now empty homes were obsolete before they were finished. house for people that have no economy to work in, no jobs to commute to...nothing to do but collect the next logical step, welfare, in the evolution of these government communities. socilism at work friend. and you want to keep these communities?

the sources of capital that made that policy possible are not here in this country. our miracle economy runs on foreign money, with roughly 70% of all our debt being foreign. that money comes here because of our sovereign risk, that is we're a safe bet to hide serious jack compared with other nations. but all that money is drying up fast. there are safer bets if our elected officials cannot grow up, act like adults, stop the red-blue name calling, play nice, and focus on a game plan that works. if they cannot, or if their foolishness is a genuine representation of just how splinterred this nation has become, its lights out friends. i wouldn't put money into this place if our own government cannot manage its own banking system. would you?

you want to fix the economy? put money back in the hands of the people. not the rich people. the people. tear all those empty, useless houses down. pay working class people real money to tear them down. put real capital back in the working man's hands. start to re-build a housing market shaped by the working people of this government, not a bunch socialist aristocrats with more money in their pockets than sense.
