Uhhhh..no there aren't just 2 sides.  There are probably more close to 10 sides, and probably more.  There's the communist liberals, the far left (socialist) liberals, liberals, moderate democrats, libertarians, moderate republicans, conservatives, the religious right, strict constitutionalists and far right conservatives just to name the major ones.  Most people will fit into more than one group dependent upon the topic.  It is no wonder there is so much difference of opinion in politics.
