Human flatulence emits 94,734,290 metric tons of CO2 per year! That's almost half of 1 percent of all global CO2 emissions!

Human flatulence also emits 8,637,178 metric tons of Methane per year!  This is equivalent to 181,380,728 Metric Tons of CO2.

That's 8.6 metric tons!  By comparison, emissions from livestock account for 80 million metric tons of Methane per year.  Methane from livestock is a major concern for environmentalists -- especially vegetarians.

At between 50 and 100 million metric tons of methane a year, rice agriculture is possibly the biggest of man-made methane sources.

(Also, the world population of termites produces global methane emissions estimated to be about 20 million metric tons each year.)

Back to Farts:
The average person lets loose roughly 1 liter of gas per day.  This is far greater, depending on what you eat.

So what can a person eat that will increase their personal methane and CO2 emissions?

The following: Flatulence-producing foods are high in polysaccharides (especially oligosaccharides) and include beans, lentils, onions, scallions, leeks, radishes, sweet potatoes, cashews, artichokes, oats, and other vegetables. Cauliflower, Broccoli, cabbage and other vegetables not only increase flatulence, but increase the pungency of the flatus. In beans, gases arise from oligosaccharides resistant to digestion by mammals, but which are readily digestible by microorganisms within the digestive tract.  When
these oligosaccharides reach the lower intestine, bacteria feed on them, producing copious amounts of flatus.

In other words, a vegetarian diet.  (which cannot supply enough protein without addition of beans & nuts)

So, the question is: whose ass is worse for the "environment"?

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before California requires installation of meters in homes to measure flatulence.

Why does this change come by Force / Law?

To my knowledge, this is the first time anything like this has been done. Taking a highly desired product off the market, and replacing it with a more costly and less-desired product -- without any clear evidence of any harm caused by that initial product.

This is, perhaps, the first in a long line of TOTALITARIAN and COMMUNIST laws, passed by our federal government.
It's totalitarian in that it DICTATES what people are to buy.  It's communist in that it totally eliminates the FREE MARKET in the production and consumption of goods.  This law is as scary to me as the plan in California to give the STATE remote control of individuals' home thermostats.

Some people wonder why normal folks link environmentalism to communism (e.g. "Watermelons").  I think these laws make it abundantly clear (as if it wasn't already).

Even CAFE standards aren't this bad (although they're stupid and ineffective), because they only control what the industry must offer for sale -- not what individual Americans must buy.
