Global Warning "Foot Print"??

Global Warning "Foot Print"??

Postby BillsTake on 07/18/07, 10:21 pm

Beth, Could you find out the answers to some questions that none of the Nuts on Global Warming will answer??

They are:
1. What determines the size of a "Foot Print"?  What is the size of the "Foot Print"  based on?

2.  How do they measure the  emissions from the "Foot Print"? Do they measure every day for a year at that property?  Do they use a Big Tent?

3.  How big is a "Foot Print"?  What determines its size?  Is there a standard size?

4.  What about winds aloft or rain or snow, do these things make a difference?

5.  What is the basis/data  on which that this measurement is taken?

6.  How was it established as "GOOD" or "BAD". Who made this decision and what did he base it on?

7.  How does purchasing part of a "Good Foot Print" change the fact that Yours or My "Foot Print" is still Bad?

8.  If it is causing a problem, even if you purchase part of a "Good Foot Print", you property is still hurting the atmosphere isn't it?

9.  If you plant trees, and you don't plant them on the property that is causing the problem, how does that help the problem on the bad property?

10. How many trees do you plant for any given property?

11. What's the ratio of tree to the problem measure/base?

12. If Warming is the problem today, when did it change from Cooling?

13. What caused the change?

14. We have been told that the problem that caused Cooling is the same problem that is now causing Warming, how can this be?

15. If we are indeed experiencing a Warming Problem, why has this been one of the coolest Summers on Record?

16. By the way how do I buy stock in the company the sells "Good Foot Prints, or Plants Trees, I want to put it with my Portfolio of Bridges.

Of course global warming is real, it has been going on for a few thousands of years ( or 0s of thousands ) before the glaciers melted, and what caused that certainlyot fossil fuel or dust from coal fire, even the dreadful suv is innocent.
In the year 1000 the average temperature was 7 degres higher then today, according tothe cores drilled out from glaciers, from lake bottems and tree ring from ancient logs.
lake and ice show the pollen thickness.
what caued our globe to change from a very warm to a fridgid ball in a reitivly short time???.and then back, this has been going or for million of years without puny mankinds help.
Al Gorsk (red chinas choice for american president) simply has found a soapbox to shout from, since he was (cheated 0 from being elected pres he needs to do something..can you immaging the nerve of the voters picking Bush, or try to imagine if he or Ketchup Kerry were president we would all be wearing turbins today

I don't know if Beth ever answered, or who Beth even is for that matter. But I'll go ahead and try and clear things up for you as best as I can anyway.

1-11

Eliminating these will make thing easier. I've never bothered much with the whole "carbon footprint" idea, so I can't comment much on it.

A carbon footprint is really just an idea to get people thinking about how much energy they use. They're not at all scientific in nature, and there is no valid way to quantify an individual's "footprint". I suppose most websites that calculate the footprint are basing the result on how much you drive, in what sort of car, how many people you drive with, the size house you live in, how many people live with you, and how much energy you use per month or year. That sort of thing.

12-13

Global warming theory has been around since the late nineteenth century. I don't know that any scientists were ever worried about global cooling. Even during the slight cooling trend from around 1940 through 1970 (believed to have been caused by, among other things, a slight increase in sulfates from industry, an increase in volcanic activity, and a decrease in solar output), scientists believed that human activities were having a warming effect on the climate. They were far more concerned with this than any sort of short term cooling trend.

Naturally the media blew the whole thing out of proportion (surprising no one in the process). They even claimed that scientists had predicted an imminent ice age. Scientists of course hadn't done any such thing, but the media, more interested in presenting a titillating story than accurately presenting scientific thought, didn't much care.

In fact, there wasn't even a single piece of scientific literature from around the time that even mentions the idea of an imminent ice age.

14. We have been told that the problem that caused Cooling is the same problem that is now causing Warming, how can this be?

I assume the "cause" you're referring to is pollution? If so, it's important to note that not all pollution must have a warming effect. Sulfur dioxide, a chemical produced from combustion of sulfur compounds, for example, acts as a cooling agent.

And, as mentioned above, there were other factors believed to have influenced the cooling trend as well as human caused pollutants.

15. If we are indeed experiencing a Warming Problem, why has this been one of the coolest Summers on Record?

We have actually been experiencing average temperatures this Summer in the US. Worldwide, this Summer has been slightly warmer than average.

Even so, one cool summer in the US isn't evidence of a long term global cooling trend, or an absence of a warming trend. Saying that it is would be akin to claiming that an anomolously warm winter was proof positive of global warming. What is important in determining climatic trends is the long term global mean. One cool day, week, month, or even year has little effect on this.
A man once said to the universe, "Sir, I exist!" "However," replied the universe, "The fact has not created in me a sense of obligation."
