Fun with Graphs

Fun with Graphs

Postby Eyas on 01/03/08, 2:47 am

I have a few graphs to show.  I hope they all appear formatted correctly.

I have a few graphs about Global Warming, but first..................

The following is a hypothetical graph showing how much money you have in your wallet vs. how much I have in mine.  In this case, you have $51.00, and I have $57.00

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with this graph? (aside from formatting)

This is a common media technique.  The graph is exagerating a relatively small difference in wealth, by starting at 50 instead of 0.

The x axis should start at 0.

Thank you.

This is the oldest, and lamest, trick in the book.  It's so transparent that no one could present such a graph and be taken seriously -- or could they?

I'll post a couple more graphs showing what I mean tomorrow.

This graph purports to demonstrate the "MASSIVE" increase in global CO2 concentrations since 1958:

This is the "famous"/"infamous" Keeling Series.  This graph has been seen by millions of people, including heads of state, environmentalists, and a "consensus" of scientists.  It has also been used by AlGore.

Notice anything similar to my graph of "Your Money vs. My Money"?

Here's what a LEGITIMATE graph would look like:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MORE FUN:

Here is the Global Temperature Data as presented by the IPCC as a range of "+" or "-" relative to the average temperature between 1960 and 1990.  This is the graph used by IPCC to show the dramatic increase in temperature since 1958.

Here is the exact same data presented in actual degrees Fahrenheit:

Just like the "Your Money vs. My Money" graph, the IPCC routinely presents a graph which exagerrates the differences in temperature year by year.

And, just like the "Keeling Series" CO2 graph, this graph has been seen by millions, including heads of state, environmentalists, and a "consensus" of scientists.  It has also been used by AlGore.

Nevertheless, these "BRILLIANT" elites (who can do no wrong) fail to observe the blatant misrepresentation of data in these graphs, and somehow fall victim to THE most transparent of "tricks" for intentionally misrepresenting graphic information.  Go figure!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, just for kicks, here is a graph of the % change from the mean of CO2 measurements over the last 50 years (in pink), and global temperature (in blue).  That is, CO2 (pink) and Temperature (blue).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only scientific "consensus" that exists with regard to Global Warming is a "consensus" to agree to overlook blatant and transparent intentional misrepresentations of data.

Clearly you hate yourself and the rest of the world and are an "absolutist" who believes that 2+2 must always equal 4 when clearly sometimes it is 4 and sometimes it is something else.  Pictures don't LIE but Bush did and polar bears will die because of it!  You consensus denier!  I hope your beach home get's taken over by transvestite whales when the melting polar ice caps flood the Andes and covers Mount Everest!

Global Warming is a huge problem.  It is unassailable scientific fact.  Global Warming DENIERS like you will burn eternally in the fiery torment of Hell for your skepticism of this Holy decree.  Like Hitler and his minions, you will be forever remembered for your evil blasphemy.  Everyone but me should be forced to change their lives to stop this problem.

Pollution is a huge problem.  There has never been any progress in cleaning up pollution.  Nevertheless, the EPA is the most indispensible part of the Goverment solution to the evil Free Market and neocons like you.  Industry pollutes and has never been required to make any changes to stop polluting.  The Industrial Revolution is the worst thing to ever happen to mankind.  We should return to an agrarian society because it's better for "The Planet".  Better yet, we should all live like the Native Americans because they never killed more than they could eat, they used every part of the buffalo (not because killing buffalo was difficult & dangerous, and they had to use all of it, but because Native Americans were more "environmentally conscious"), they lived in harmony with the Earth, they never had war, or violence, or crime, and they were more "spiritual" (despite my contempt for all things spiritual, or, at least Christian).  All industry, especially coal plants, should be shut down forever.  Of course, I should still be allowed to watch my favorite movies, buy all my favorite stuff, and I should still have electricity, running water, my flush toilet, my refrigerator, my microwave oven, my air conditioning, my television, my internet, my cell phone, my car (hybrid because I'm better than you), my 10,000 sq ft home, my home in the Hamptons, my home in Florida, all my favorite foods (organic because I'm better than you), my this, my that, my other things; but you should not be allowed to pollute the planet with your wasteful Western ways.

Global overpopulation is the biggest problem.  So, almost everyone should should die except me.  But every life is precious and should be prevented from dying from pollution at any cost, and should not be intentionally starved to death by evil Americans who are fat & lazy and take too much of what should belong to everyone (including the fruits of their own labor). Except every life is not precious if it's not born yet, and even if it is in the process of being born, and should be snuffed out to prevent overpopulation.  And everyone should be sterilized (except me if I want children, because my children would be better & smarter than yours).

You're just an ignorant neocon, fascist who bows at the altar of Karl Rove.  You should become more enlightened and think the way the elite of society does.  If you don't, we (the elite) will band together to mock and ostracize you, and give you failing grades if you're in school, and use our control of the media to brainwash you, just like we're doing to your children as we speak.  And, once Hillary is elected, if you don't think like we do -- we'll make you think like us.  It will be illegal to deny the truth of Global Warming, or the benefits of Global Socialism.  You just wait - you neocon, Karl Rove, Haliburton, Exxon-Mobil, Blackwater, war-mongering, chicken-hawk, bigotted, racist, sexist, homophobe*, fascist!

Please, the name is "PaleoCon."  NeoCon is a completely different fascist.
