In response to Waitress Polly's last post:
I don't feel that it is oversimplified at all, your explanation, that is. I feel that if everyone did this, we would be fine, but it has to be EVERYONE. It can't just be the average Joe Schmo who wants his lawn mowed. It has to be the construction companies and the gardening businesses. My boyfriend used to live in Palm Desert, Ca, which is right outside of Palm Springs, and there, he said you could see first-hand the affects of illegal immigration workers. I used to think that the illegal aliens were at least doing the jobs that many Americans refuse to do (especially when they can make more money on welfare programs), and while I still think that explanation still holds some water, I think there are plenty of people who will do those jobs. I was just watching a show the other night... I think it was Ted Koppel of Discovery, maybe not though, anyway, they were talking about people who have done time in prison and are having a hard time finding work. I say give those jobs that Americans allegedly won't do to the ex-cons. Its not fun work, but then do they really deserve fun work. I am not one to think that their should be any adversity shown to criminals after they have served their time, but many people just don't want to hire someone with a record, and I don't blame them, if I owned a small business, I would do extensive background checks to protect my assets, and I would not hire someone who could possibly damage those assets. I feel as though I am ranting so let me put it in a nutshell. I am totally ok with immigration, I am not ok however with illegal immigration. If I had come over to America legally, I would find it to be a slap in the face to have someone get away with being over here illegally. It is a lot of work to become legalized, and immigrants who take the proper steps to come to this land should be commended. Immigrants who come here illegally are degrading our system and hurting those who did it the right way. Its just not right, no matter how you look at it.
