Dhimmi or Dead.

I hope that everyone on this forum has an appreciation of the danger of Islam.

If you do not understand Islam, you cannot understand the events of 9/11, the War on Terror, Iraq, Afghanistan, or the future Islamic wars that will spring up across the globe.

By the way, I have seen zero evidence that anyone in the Bush Administration has even made an attempt to understand Islam.  Perhaps they understand it and merely disguise their understanding for political correctness' sake, I don't know.

Do not think you understand Islam by reading the Koran.  The Koran is weird and mostly unintelligible even to Muslims.

First, I recommend visiting http://jihadwatch.org/
Second, I recommend reading one or two of Robert Spencer's books.  "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam" is a quick and easy read, provides understanding of the basics, and (though maybe somewhat simplistic) is entirely accurate.
Third, I recommend visiting http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamentals/hadithsunnah/
to take a look at the Hadith and Sunnah which comprise the real textual basis for the religion.  When looking at some Hadith, I hope you will note that the Common description of Islamic belief as "There is no God but Allah." is repeatedly, and more accurately translated as "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah."  A not so subtle distinction which I think speaks volumes about the fundamental tenets of Islam.

Anyway, if you haven't already, please educate yourself about Islam from reliable and honest sources.

Thanks for posting - and I agree 100%. Half the Koran is gibberish, and the other half tells them to kill people. I actually tried to read it once, but it was so dopey I couldn't get through it.

It does take clear analysis to really understand it.

Yeah, my first step in trying to understand Islam was to read the Koran.  It seemed like an obvious thing to do.  I mean, if you want to understand Judeo-Christian religion, you could simply try to plow through the Bible (even the boring parts).

Reading the Koran started out easily enough, the first 1/3 to 1/2 is fairly straightforward & readable.  However, the rest of it seemed to me like reading the lunatic ravings of a schizophrenic's journal/diary.  It was incomprehensible.  It doesn't surprise me that even Muslims have a very tough time understanding it.

The link to the Sunnah and Hadith that I provided is probably your best bet if trying to understand Islam.

It's also important to understand that later Surah and Hadith can overrule/override prior rules/statements by Muhammed.  I forget the name for this, but if two things conflict, the latter takes precedence.
