The simple fact is that no matter how poorly congress performs, 98% of incumbents get reelected. Everyone seems to think their guy or girl is doing a great job and the problem is everyone else.
I KNEW my guy (US Congressman) and his girl (his wife was a State Senator) were both doing a horrible job and I told them so repeatedly over the last several years. She got voted out of office and he decided not to run again. But, they are the very definition of RINOs. The only problem is she was replaced by a Liberal in the State Senate and open seats in the House are hard to predict. We have a true conservative running but the district has become more liberal over the last 4 years. It is a horse race.
The positive development is that some people with money like the Lincoln Club of Orange County are threatening to stop supporting the GOP if they don't clean house in the leadership of the House. It sounds like people with money are getting fed up with RINOs. But, I don't expect that threat will be sufficient to make a significant impact on this election. It may change things after the election but that still gives the Dems the opportunity to control both houses for two more years.
The abysmal performance of Congressional Republicans is exactly why I am not accepting the "lesser of two evils" argument any longer. Voting on that basis kept putting our RINO losers back in office no matter how badly they abandoned core conservative principles. In the end, they weren't significantly "less evil" than the Dems. But they did manage to destroy the party and are bailing out of the mess they made and will not suffer for their actions.
In some ways this mess in congress is like college football cheating scandals. The coach is almost always at the center of a college football scandal. When the cheating is discovered the college is put on probation and suffers. But the coach resigns and then takes a job at another college and avoids any consequences for his actions. RINOs created huge scandals for the GOP. The party has now been caught and is suffering significant harm. But, the congressmen who caused the harm will simply move on to some high paying lobbying job and avoid any of the consequences of their actions. We, the voters, have to be smarter.
