Thank you, guys. I thought that I was going over the edge & that I'd soon be posting about all of the black helicopters following me.
I checked the vote a couple of hours after I originally posted it & there was one vote "Yes" and one vote "No". I figured that I must be getting paranoid, so I took a little 48 hour break from news & internet & thinking about this stuff.
I am much relieved to know I'm not the only one.

Actually, I have taken a grave risk in someone thinking that I may not be PC and made a comment about the whole Maxist/Communist equals Democrate - Obama idea to a few people and guess what. They agreeded. They didn't even look at me funny. Just said they haven't said anything to anyone because they didn't want to be thought of as a conspiracy theory nut.
Unfortunately, you must be hanging out with the "wrong" crowd (meaning the right crowd). I'm encouraged that the people you said this to were all rational people, but I don't think it is representative of most Americans.
Yesterday on Glenn Beck's show, he quoted some poll (I don't remember where it was from) which indicated that 49% of Americans were in favor of nationalizing the oil industry.
This means one or both of the following:
1. 49% of Americans can no longer identify Communism, even when it is presented OPENLY to them; AND/OR
2. 49% of Americans no longer perceive Communism as a bad thing -- instead, it is actually desirable to them.

I was talking to a co-worker and he said "Communism can't be any worse than our current system of government". I was speechless. "Not as bad"? I later found out he has a Masters Degree, maybe he spent way too much time being indoctrinated. Personally I believe people will not wake up until it is way too late. By the time they wake up we will have no means with which to revolt.
This is exactly what I'm talking about.
I agree with Paleo that the more so-called "education" a person has, the more likely they are to sympathize with or endorse Communism. However, that's a relatively recent problem (last 20 yrs), and the acceptability of Communism is even
more widespread than that. In addition to the younger college-"educated" elitist crowd, there are many older "educated" people, and many "uneducated" folks who have been brainwashed (by the MSM) into acceptance of Communism.

He only refers to their ideology in those terms in passing and you know John McCain isn't going to bring out the socialist/marxist/communist labels to identify either Obama, the people around him or his ideology.
Obama is a marxist. The problem with calling him that is that too many people do not know who Karl Marx was, anything about his Communist Manifesto or anything about his ideology. My daughter even blew my mind one day when she asked me what a marxist is. This is a Rush baby and she is a lover of history. I raised her right but the Government school didn't teach her. When I said communist, she knew, so perhaps we should drop the Marxist stuff and refer to them as communists.
Rush will occasionally say that someone is a "marxist"; but it seems that he uses the term as a euphemism. It's as if he's embarrassed to actually label someone a "Communist".
You raise a good point, Mum. When you call someone a "socialist" or a "Marxist", the bulk of Americans say to themselves, "Huh? What? A 'socialist' -- big deal. A 'marxist' -- what's that?"
The Left in this country is very good at defining debates in their terms. As mentally disturbed as they are, they are masters of language, of connotation, of phrasing. We (Rush included) MUST start calling these people what they are --
COMMUNIST. Forget "Marxist" - no one gets it. Forget "Socialist" -- it's not accurate. Forget "
Progressive" --
Progress towards what?
(hint: it's communism)Even this will be discounted by the MSM. Even this will be dismissed by Democrats as "Evil Republican" talking points. But, it
may just grab the attention of the ill-informed "moderates" and middle-of-the-road American Idol watchers. One thing is sure, if we continue to use euphemisms in this age of hyperbole, rather than labelling these people as
WHAT THEY ARE , no one will pay attention.
This IS a talking point.
THE talking point. The terms of the debate must be redefined... by sane people.
I have one suggestion for everyone in their dealings with "liberals" or "moderates".
I suggest asking two questions:
1. What is Communism?
Communism is: a) A totalitarian system of government in which the State controls the means of production (i.e., the economy; industry)
b) A theory advocating the elimination of private property
2. What is it about Communism that they find appealing?
"Moderates" will likely say that they don't like Communism -- utterly clueless as to the fact that Communism is exactly what they have been supporting. Explain it to them.
"Liberals"/"Progressives" will typically mutter something about "equitable distribution", or "greedy corporations" or some other sub-moronic hogwash. I'm sure any of us can easily destroy these arguments.
I find that the best arguments are ones that personalize the consequences of communism --- ROB THEM. Seriously, hold 'em down & take their wallets. See how they like it.
Now, leftists are so brain-addled that they're usually incapable of drawing the parallel between robbing them and Communism -- they're lost. BUT, someone watching the argument -- some "moderate" or "slightly-less-than-crazy liberal" may actually be 'saved'.
(Oh, and I guess you can return the lib's wallet so's you don't get arrested.) Anyway, I am comforted to know that I'm not the only person to see this problem, and to recognize how much faster things are "
progressing" these days.
