Conservatives Risk Irrelevancy

Yea they got us by the short hairs but the alternative is so much worse ....

If the alternative wasn't so much worse, they wouldn't have a hold of us. That's the point.

And I've said this again but it bears repeating: winning this election will solve nothing. There will always be another Clinton to beat, another recession to stop, another judge about to retire. And the GOP will continue to bank on it. If the Dems throw up Hitler, they can throw up Castro and say he's not that bad. Think that's a stretch? Spend some time talking to America's youth and the Hispanic immigrants flooding in. Right now half the country is willing to vote for socialism, and the GOP is two steps behind. In 20 years Republicans will be voting for Bill Richardson because the alternative will be Hugo Chavez.

And then we have John McCain. The guy who wrote McCain-Feingold will protect our freedom of speech, defend the Constitution? The guy who believes in global warming will refuse to raise taxes? The guy who wants to close Gitmo will defeat Al Qaeda? Sure he'll keep us in Iraq - to what end? For more terrorists to be brought into the States? To demonize our soldiers for torture and bind their hands from killing the bad guys? To fan the flames of war with Iran?

The man who said Hillary would make a great president, he'll suddenly grow a backbone and try to stop her? The man who lied about Mitt Romney will respect his voter's opinions? The man whose own campaign refuses to criticize Obama, he'll get tough come November?

McCain's entire platform is "at least I'm not a Democrat" while he simultaneously agrees with Dems on nearly everything. He is a strawman. He's like Homer Stokes in Oh Brother Where Art Thou - promising to be the alternative choice while acting just as bad behind the scenes.

Face it dude, we're toast either way, and thinking McCain will save us is naive.

I whole-heartedly agree.

... if only it were as easy as trotting in with 6 or 7 strong guys & literally riding McCain out on a rail.

Love that movie, love the soundtrack, loved the reference.

Maybe the November election could go like this:

McCain: Wait a minute! Who elected you leader a this outfit?
Hillary: Well, John, I just figured it should be the one with capacity for abstract thought. But if that ain't the consensus view, hell, let's put her to a vote!
McCain: Suits me! I'm votin' for yours truly!
Hillary: Well I'm votin' for yours truly too!

Both candidates look interrogatively to the American People.

The American People look from McCain to Hillary, and nod agreeably.

The American People: Okay - I'm with you fellas.

ROFL!

And then Hillary could turn Barack into a toad....

Okay I better stop now.

(somewhere, someone who hasn't seen the movie is going "wha?")

That sums up the whole GOP mind set for the last 8 to 10 years.  But, frankly, only "majortool" seems to think McCain is the answer.

I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR JOHN MCCAIN!
He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.
