Can Lightning Strike Twice?

Can Lightning Strike Twice?

Postby dittohead on 02/28/08, 11:10 pm

Our enemies are a patient people.  It is not our nature in America to be patient.  There in lies a scary problem for our country.  I have been noticing more and more articles being written minimizing the concern we should have over the terrorist threat to our country.  For many, the terrorist threat is over, and it's time to move on to other problems.

They write that 9/11 was an aberration and unlikely to be repeated.  They would like to relax our security, repeal the Patriot Act, and greatly reduce our attention to any terrorist threats to our country.

I do not want to be an alarmist, but I am quite certain that we have not seen the last of Islamist militants inside the USA.  For me, it's not a question of if, but when.

By relaxing our vigilance, I fear that we are inviting another 9/11 type event that has already  been planned - with patient extremists only waiting until the time is right to execute their plan.

Of course there will be another attack ditto. I'm not saying that to prove some political point and I'm not sitting here hoping it will happen. But it will happen.

Exactly what candace said, next time I know it'll be as big as 9/11 because they've said stuff about 4 million people to even the field.

It can strike twice, and usually does.  It can strike three, or four, or ten times.   It can strike ten, or twenty, or thirty times in as many different places, all in a single day, and at exactly the same time.  Each time can be two, or three, or ten times as deadly as 9/11.

Remember 2 things about 9/11: 1) it was intended to be as much symbolic as it was to claim lives; and 2) only through the bravery and quick action of NYFD, and through sheer dumb luck, was the death toll for 9/11 so amazingly low (yes, low).

The sheer variety of targets, and possible ways to kill more people, almost ensures that the next coordinated hit will be worse than 9/11.

Also remember that the number of terrorists already in the U.S. is  unknown.  And, given ZERO control over who enters our country, the number is most likely vast, unknowable, and unstoppable.

Last week it was discovered that there had been a terrorist training camp in the U.K. countryside.  How much more countryside do we have?  How many active terrorist training camps are there within the U.S.?

Rather than questioning the absolute 100% certainty that one or more major terrorists acts will occur within the U.S. in the near future; it would be more interesting to speculate on how it would be done, or to place bets on when they will happen, not if.

I have read 3 or 4 articles written in just the last two weeks either trivializing 9/11 or the terrorist threat in general.

Here is an interview with a recent Oscar winner.

Well, the woman revealed her utter stupidity in the article but I don't see how it trivialized either 9/11 or the threat of terrorism.  Clearly this bimbo is a moron but that is par for the course out of Hollywood.

I think some measure of relaxation is allowed, in that the same sort of incident probably would not occur. As in, crashing planes into buildings isn't something that will be tolerated anymore.

In a way, relaxing would make us better protected. Right now, if everyone is afraid only of the dangers they have seen (plane hijacking) the may not notice other forms of danger. It's good to relax in regard to the danger we know to contemplate those we don't, preferably before terrorists think of them first.

Oh its ok, the idiots who train pilots, well they are saying as of now, there are tons of MIDDLE EASTERN people that have gotten flight lesson as of right now, or are looking to get them. There was a law that was passed but well, who listens to laws like that? THATS RACIST AIN'T IT? I perdict the next terrorist attack will be suicide bombers or private plane crashes.
