Bush Lifts Ban on Off-Shore Drilling

Bush Lifts Ban on Off-Shore Drilling

Postby SoldiersMum on 07/14/08, 10:36 am

President Bush just signed an Executive Order lifting the ban on off-shore drilling.  The EO did not include Anwr or other searches for oil.  Let's watch what Congress does with this now.

It is about time!  I don't know what he was thinking earlier when he said he would only lift the ban after Congress acted!  Well, it only took him 7 1/2 years to do the right thing.  No wonder his approval ratings are low.  It is a rare gift to get everybody mad at you.

its nothing more than a political stunt aimed at infusing this topic into the debate.  Bush has had 7+ years to do this and waits until the peak of election season (on his way out of office to do this)-shameful.  Even more so are the republicans in office who claim its leftist/socialist/dnc lunatics that are preventing this from happening- what about when repubs were in control of congress???  they are all full of it-neither party wants drilling for different reasons- the only diff. is repubs say they want it, but yet do nothing to accomplish it!

This topic IS the debate right now.  Everything else is secondary to energy costs at this moment.

Yes, it is shameful that Bush didn't do this for 7 years.  And yes, the GOP should have lifted the Congressional ban on offshore drilling when they had control of Congress.  But, I don't think it is safe to say neither party wants to drill.  The Dems definitely don't want to drill.  The GOP was more concerned about other things when they had the opportunity.  This is one of the reasons many of us here are no longer Republicans.
