Boycott the Olympics over Tibet?

Boycott the Olympics over Tibet?

After seeing the brutality of the PRC against religious people there is no way I can support the olympics this year, I will not watch on TV and instead will get the results from the internet.

Can you believe that dictators and tyrants are now our #1 trading partner and are propping up our economy by buying our junk T bonds ?

That's exactly why Bush would never allow a boycott.  People in this country are terrified of China and what they could do to our economy if they chose to.

Some folks say that there's nothing wrong with China owning so much of our debt, or owning so many "American" companies.  Well, ONE problem is exactly this one.  It forces our hand in terms of influencing our government to avoid doing things that it otherwise should do - like boycotting the Olympics.

In the interest of the fastest and easiest buck, we have given the PRC the leverage to upset the moral high ground we hold, and should be able to exercise.

Not greatly different is the situation we face with middle-eastern oil. By not competing with our own domestic market, we subjugate ourselves to the terrorist-backing governments. This happens whether we import their oil or not. They maintain a monopoly on the resource, just as we allow the oil companies a monopoly on the product.

The real problem is that we lost the will to oppose evil.  In fact, most politicians, and I suspect most people, no longer believe in the concept of "evil."  They think there is no such thing as moral absolutes and thus morality is relative.  They then expect others will be willing to negotiate a settlement at some middle position.  But, the fail to understand or believe the public claims of those who promise to destroy us.

What is the "middle ground" for someone who openly seeks our destruction?  Well, the answer is the next step closer to our destruction.  They realize that but our relativistic "leaders" don't and will negotiate freedom and even life itself away one step at a time.
