One of the things this year has shown is that the Libs are experiencing some significant divisions. The party is split into two factions in the presidential campaign. The two sides evidently loathe each other. And that is creating some interesting currents. Ironically, they are probably more similar philosophically than the GOP but they all seem to hate each other.
Reid in the Senate has been quiet on the issue of endorsing a candidate. Some people suspect endorsing a candidate could tear apart the dems in the Senate and cripple any possiblity of Reid leading the Senate. But, ironically, he hasn't been able to lead the Senate effectively since he became majority leader. Thankfully, Reid has accomplished virtually nothing in the last 2 years.
Pelosi has been even less effective in the House. She seems to be leaning toward Obama because she clearly detests Clinton. I suspect that if Hillary "Rocky" Clinton were to become the next president the conflict between Pelosi and Clinton would be worse than that between Reagan and Tip O'Niell. That could easily lead to nothing coming out of the House for the next 4 years.
It is possible that the democrats could win or lose the presidency. A McCain victory is not a given even if they dems continue to tear themselves apart. And the nation seems to be disgusted with both the GOP and democrats in Congress so it is possible that even if the GOP retains the White House they could face a larger democrat majority in Congress. I suspect that a McCain victory will have short coattails.
Frankly, I fear a McCain alliance with a democrat Congress more than a HRC alliance with a democrat Congress. I suspect Clinton and Pelosi will spend more time fighting for control of a legislative agenda than working together. Ironically, McCain may be more willing to work with Reid and Pelosi and that scares me because their ideas are dangerous. Obama seems so inept that I doubt he has a coherent vision for governing. His lack of close relationships in the Senate won't do him much good there. And I suspect he and Pelosi would have a similar power struggle as with HRC but it might be less personal. But, still Obama and Pelosi would fight for "leadership."
