Welcome YNC, glad to see we're growing. I think I'll make it a standard to ask just what you were searching for that lead to these forums. Care to share.
As for ultracon's bit of bitterness, I share your point. Lately, I've have to make it clear to people that I'm a Conservative, not necessarily a Republican.
A few years ago, it was heartening to see a surge of the College Republicans while I was still in college, but after a while, I noticed that their cries to rally weren't so much about advancing conservative viewpoints as, well, rallying. It was mostly "help beat this Dem," or "Help support the Rep." To be fair, this was a public university with a strong tolerance for liberals and their "special" constituencies, so the fact that there was a growing republican backing at all was a good sign.
Strangely enough, most of my fellow students didn't respect the people that tried to force liberal ideas down our throats. It made situations like the day after the 2004 elections all the more humorous when a few of students sat in the front row with their 'W' hats on in full display and gloating while the professor took his soap box and ranted for an hour and 15 minutes. Despite GWB's somewhat softer conservatism, we'll be wishing for the good ol'days of his earlier term come a year from now.
